Until comparatively recently, it was only possible for foreigners to invest in the Asian equity market through authorised country funds, Now the deregulation and globalisation of its financial markets has led to Asian investors investing their new-found wealth not only in traditional domestic equities but also in Eurobonds, Dragonbonds and indeed a variety of tradable instruments. In addition, we have seen the emergence of derivatives activity through the establishment of financial futures exchanges in a number of Asian countries. Such market growth encouraged more and more Asian issuers to seek alternative methods of raising finance.
