Republic Act No. 8291, otherwise known as the “Government Service Insurance Act of 1997,” was enacted last May 30, 1997. The law was signed by the President of the Philippines Fidel V. Ramos, Senate President Ernesto Maceda and Speaker of the House Jose de Venecia.
